Cornmeal porridge (2 servings)
Breakfast, cheap, peasant mealThis is truly a peasant meal at like $0.07 CAD a serving, this is barely sustenance lol. I modified this from the recipe on the back of the bag. The porridge is very bland without add-ins but edible and filling. This can keep for a day in the fridge and then starts to get unappetizing.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup cornmeal (I use Dunya Yellow Cornmeal #400)
Steps
- Bring 1 1/2 cups of water and 1/2 tsp salt to a boil.
- Add cornmeal while whisking and reduce to low heat.
- Cook for ~5 min, stirring occassionally, until the water is absorbed and cornmeal is creamy.
- Remove from heat, cover, and let stand for 1–2 min before serving.
Add-ins
- Milk (any kind)
- Brown sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Cinnamon
- Ground nutmeg
